Bird Box Inspection at the Countryside Preserve

Details: Bird Boxes are cavities for nests used by Tree swallows, Eastern Bluebirds, House Wrens. Chickadees, and Eastern Screech owls. While we may have preferred tenants (birds), our boxes are sometimes modified by Flying squirrels, Red Squirrels, Gray squirrels, and Field Mice, over the winter and may need cleaning or repair. Put on your boots and possibly your “Grip Ons”/Ice grabers and join Derek Connelly for a 4 km walk around the Countryside Preserve as he checks the bird boxes. Preregister by e-mail to dconn50@powergate.ca or by phone at (905) 852-5432 to confirm what tools you need. Please note that this event is weather dependent.

Infant Hearing Clinic [Caregivers with children 4 months and under]

Details: Children develop speech and language by listening and imitating those around them, but when there is a hearing loss, these skills may be delayed. Nearly four in 1,000 babies are born deaf or hard of hearing and more children develop hearing loss as they grow. To help identify children as early as possible and provide them with follow-up services, 15 minute infant hearing screenings will be available in partnership with the Markham Stouffville Hospital, the lead agency for the Tri-Regional Infant Hearing Program.

Visit the Tank Display Bay and see a large selection of operational military vehicles from a 1941 MB Jeep to Armoured Personnel Carriers and modern Battle TANKS! There will be a "Tank Talk" at 1:00 PM every day where a special speaker will give you some insight into the history and operation of a vehicle in our collection.
